Your Start to Laser Surgery in Langley

Refractive eye surgery has changed the lives of millions of people. Over the last 30 year, laser eye surgery has become a commonplace outpatient procedure. Willoughby Doctors of Optometry is your start to living a life without glasses. Book your laser eye consultation online.

A Laser Eye Surgery Consultation That’s All About Your Eyes

When you visit our office for a consultation, we will sit down with you to ensure you understand the overall process and the actual procedure. We want you to understand it all step-by-step, so that it is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. There are a number of refractive surgeries to choose from, all with different advantages and disadvantages. We will help you choose the one that is the best for you.

The Consultation Exam

At the consultation, we will do a thorough exam of your eyes. We will build a complete profile of your vision and eye health including your prescription, the shape of your eyes, and the characteristics of your cornea. This helps us choose which surgery your eyes will respond to the most.

We encourage you to ask questions about the surgery itself, about the before and after care of the procedure, and the long-term implications. Only when you feel satisfied and confident in your choice will we refer you to an ophthalmologist for one of the following surgeries.

This was the first surgery used to correct eyesight with lasers and is still favoured by many doctors. This is the best laser eye surgery for patients with thin corneas or dry eyes. The outer layer of corneal tissue is removed for the surgeon to adjust the shape of the cornea below. The removed tissue grows back on its own in about five days. A bandage contact lens is used to facilitate healing.

The most common laser eye surgery is LASIK. Your corneal tissue is made into a flap that can be folded out of the way while the laser reshapes the cornea below. The flap is then folded back over the incision and serves as a bandage for the eye. It has a shorter healing time than PRK.

A combination of the two aforementioned surgeries, this surgery creates an ultra-thin flap of corneal tissue but does not remove it altogether. The cornea is reshaped with a laser, the flap is replaced on the eye, and a bandage contact lens is placed overtop to facilitate healing.

Connecting You With Trusted Ophthalmologists

We only work with the best laser eye surgeons in the Langley area. You have trusted your eyes to us and we will only refer you to ophthalmologists we trust to perform your surgery. After your surgery, we will follow up with you to ensure the procedure went well and that you are healing properly. Your acuity will develop over the next six months, and we will schedule intermittent eye exams to test your vision and eye health.
